A new chapter in the My Voice, My Journey program has begun as the 2024 cohort marks the expansion of the initiative beyond Eurobodalla, welcoming 20 participants from Djiringanj and Thaua Country (Bega and Eden.)
The journey commenced on Walbunja Country at the Nelligen Big 4 caravan park with a smoking ceremony by Walbunja leader Jordy Nye and previous My Voice My Journey participant Emma Sproates from Mulahda Gamara. This set the tone for the program fostering respect for our Culture and Country.
The next day we traveled up to Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country (Canberra) where we went go-karting followed by a poignant visit to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. On the last full day, everyone got the opportunity to go kayaking with local tour company Region X, providing participants with an opportunity to step out of their comfort zones on the Bhundoo (Clyde) River.
The 2024 program marks a significant milestone in our mission to empower young First Nations leaders through culture as it is the first time we have run this program with participants outside of the Eurobodalla region.
With more trips to other places around NSW planned we are very excited to see our young leaders grow and develop as they embark on this journey.
